Owing to a slight turn in Sixth Avenue, this church building strikingly appears – from the uptown business district – to stand out in the middle of the street. Because of its location, halfway uptown from the Union Station, numbers of strangers stop to observe the headquarters offices and oft times pause to read a verse from the open Bibles in the windows.

At night this building is especially attractive because of its illuminated signs. Besides the neon entrance sign, THE APOSTOLIC FAITH, there is, on the top edge of the structure, a traveling-word sign, 50 feet in length which, in front two to three minutes, gleams forth a message of 125 words, giving a short sermonette, a verse of Scripture, and an announcement of the services.

The most impressive attraction in the night sky is the large, beautifully colored neon sign:

JESUS
The Light of the World

Which is lifted high above the building, towering over the commercial signs in the district.

This insignia, with its brilliant star overhead, was transferred to its present location from the old "Lighthouse by the Bridge," and later changed from electric to neon. Its dominant position atop the church building plays a unique part in the life of the city, and greets Portland's guests as they enter by auto, aboard ship, on the train, or in the air. Being a double sign, 50 feet high  and 70 feet long, It can be seen from both sides at a great distance. The letters in the name JESUS are 10 feet high, and 5 feet across, the 'Whole sign containing a total of 800 feet of neon tubing.

Every moment from sunset until after midnight this sign flashes on and off, constantly blazing out an invitation to come to a place of worship where the name of JESUS is exalted and praised.
